Hardcover first edition, first printing. Not a book club, remainder or ex-library copy. Signed by the editor Paul Williams on the title page. Very fine (unread) copy in a jacket who's only defect is an area on the lower back panel over the ISBN stripe where the price sticker was pulled off and took some of the jacket surface with it, else a very fine (unread) copy in fine jacket. First volume in projected ten volume collection of all Sturgeon's work, titled "The Complete Stories of Theodore Sturgeon." Edited by Paul Williams, this multi-volumed work is dedicated to collecting all Sturgeon's work, both published and unpublished, into a chronological format. Forwards by Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke and Gene Wolfe. This first volume contains stories written between 1937 and 1940. Clute, Classics of the 1990's, pg. 237, in Science Fiction: The Illustrated Encyclopedia. This collection and study of Sturgeon's work is likely to become one of the most studied and valuable collective works of this decade. In addition, Kurt Vonnegut, during a radio interview in 1991 (as related by by Richard Lupoff during a Sturgeon birthday panel at a local bookstore on Feb 28, 1998), once identified Theodore Sturgeon as the Kilgore Trout, the memorable sf-writer character in Vonnegut's novels God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater (1965) and Breakfast of Champions (1973).
