The magnificient sequel (but prequel to the events in) the 1993 Hugo Co-winner and 1992 Nebula Nominated novel A Fire Upon the Deep. The second book in Vinge's Zones of Thought series. Both books are the best alien-contact novels since Ursula Le Guin's Left Hand of Darkness or Larry Niven's The Mote in God's Eye.
