Small dent (caused by shelving) with associated crinkling at lower spine panel corner, else fine (unread) copy in fine jacket. A straight, square copy in near pristine condition. Weir studied orbital mechanics, astronomy, and the history of manned spaceflight to make the book as realistic as possible. Originally self-published on his own website in 2011 after being re-buffed by publishers, popular demand motived Weir to publish a Kindle version which recorded 35,000 downloads in a three month period. This drew the attention of Crown, who purchased the rights and re-published it in print in 2014. The novel has been optioned for The film version starring Matt Damon (originally cast for actor Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad) as marooned Martian astronaut Mark Whatney. "An excellent first novel.Weir laces the technical details with enough keen wit to satisfy hard science fiction fan and general reader alike [and] keeps the story escalating to a riveting conclusion."- Publisher's Weekly (starred review).

THREE FROM THE LEGION, Williamson, Jack
312 THREE FROM THE LEGION
Williamson, Jack
Nelson Doubleday, 1979,

Book Club (BCE/BOMC), Hardcover, Fine, Near Fine. Book. Woolhiser, Jack
Book Club Edition, first printing. First printing code #J47 on page 535 and code #3591 on rear jacket flap. Maroon boards with black lettering on spine. Omnibus, collects The Legion of Space (1947) The Cometeers (1950) and One Against the Legion (1950), all originally published in pulp magazines before being published in hardcovers by Fantasy Press. The interesting collecting point about this BCE is it also collects in hardcover for the first time the novella "Nowhere Near" another Legion of Space story, which was first published in pulp magazine and strangely was not listed in the Contents page of the BCE. Aside from some scuffing along the bottom edges of the boards and light age-related wear at the top edge, the boards and page block are square, bright and without marks. Excellent condition for this book club. The jacket has light crinkling at top and bottom corners of the spine panel with one small, closed tear (2 cm in length) at the bottom edge of rear jacket panel. Aside from these defects, the jacket is bright, intact and without chipping.
