This copy is clean, square and without the usual price-clipping, the original $16.95 price is intact. Page block is bright and jacket is sharp. Unusual to find this title in fine condition. Deckled edges with red dye stain on top edge of text block, in the old printing style common with books in the past. Rear jacket panel illustration mirrors the front panel except for the title "Perfume" is translated back into the original "Das Parfum" in German. Patrick Suskind is a German author and screenwriter. He's a recluse, never granting interviews or allowing photos. Wonderful condition for this book. A movie starring Dustin Hoffman was produced. Fantasy Literature 4A-240. Broken type on right edge of lines 28-29 and 30-32 on page 229. Red top stain on type block and boards are green cloth with silver spine lettering and copper devices. Fold-out map of Beleriand is clean, intact without tears and still attached to rear free endpaper. Jacket is frayed and chipped at tips and head and heel of spine panel. Several jacket creases at top edge of front panel with one jagged but closed tear 1.5 cm in lenght. Handling and age-related wear to page block edges, but normal for a book this age. Faint scuff mark on top edge of page block. Defects said, still a straight, square copy with a tight binding and without price-clipping or previous owner's marks. First printing points present: purple topstain on top edge of page block and the date "10/90" printed on lower edge of rear jacket panel indicating an October, 1990 printing. Copy shows some age and handling-related edgewear to textblock with some minor rounding of the top and bottom edges of the spine panel (caused by shelving). Slight bow to rear board. "First Edition" so stated on copyright page. Collects Waldrop's short fiction with an Introduction by George R. R. Martin. The dustjacket itself is complete with price intact. Tape residue on rear of jacket where mylar cover was taped to the back of the jacket. Rear of jacket exhibits scuffing caused by rubbing from the black boards. The library sticker at the botttom of the spine panel has been removed and cleaned, leaving a faint tape ghost. Two additional very faint tape ghost smudges on spine panel. Other than these defects, the jacket is clean and complete without any of the usual library stickers, sparing the jacket the usual sticker damage. A very nice jacket to marry to a superior copy. Award History: 1987 Locus Poll Award Nominee (lost to Blue Champagne by John Varley).
