JONATHAN STRANGE AND MR. NORRELL: A NOVEL (CREME JACKET VARIANT), Clarke, Susanna
101 JONATHAN STRANGE AND MR. NORRELL: A NOVEL (CREME JACKET VARIANT)
Clarke, Susanna
New York, Bloomsbury, 2004, 1582344167 / 9781582344164

First Edition, Hardcover, Very Fine, Very Fine. Book. Rosenberg, Portia
Hardcover first edition, first printing and true first edition. Stated First Edition with "1" present in complete number line. Very fine (unread) copy in very fine jacket. (Despite the "First US Edition" statement on the copyright page, this US edition precedes the UK edition by 3 weeks.) Not book club, remainder or ex-library copy. This copy has the coveted creme colored jacket protected with a clear, archival cover. First edition first printings were issued in two jacket variants: one creme and the other black with red endpapers. (True first editions have red endpapers with a creme or black jacket. All later printings have white endpapers and black or red jackets only.) Collectors note all first printing points are present: "First U.S. Edition 2004" state on copyright page with full number line, $27.95 price on jacket flap and red endpapers. Collectors have edged toward collecting the creme colored jackets over the black as all later printings were published in black jackets only. Also, neither the the creme nor black colored jackets are laminated, making them very prone (especially the creme jacket), to wear and smudges. Time and handling have made the creme jackets the premier collector's trade edition. ''A quite extraordinary novel, not least because of the quiet, almost leisurely ways by which it achieves its extraordinariness.'' - Gary K. Wolfe, Locus. The US edition is already into its 8th printings. Award History: 2005 Locus Award Winner for Best First Novel; 2005 World Fantasy Award Winner for Best Novel); 2005 Locus Award Winner for Best First Novel; 2005 Hugo Award Winner for Best Novel; SF Site's Best SF and Fantasy Books of 2004: 2005 Nebula Award Nominee (lost to Camouflage by Joe Haldeman); Editors' Choice; 2004 British SF Award Nominee for Best Novel (lost to River of Gods by McDonald); Borders Books Best of 2004 Science Fiction & Fantasy. 103 JONATHAN STRANGE AND MR. NORRELL: A NOVEL (SIGNED)
Clarke, Susanna
Bloomsbury, 2004, 1582344167 / 9781582344164

First Edition, Hardcover, Fine, Near Fine. Book. Rosenberg, Portia
Hardcover first edition, first printing and true first edition. Stated First Edition with "1" present in complete number line. (Despite the "First US Edition" statement on the copyright page, the US edition precedes the UK edition by 3 weeks.) Not a book club, remainder or ex-library copy. Signed by Clarke on the title page. This copy is the coveted creme jacket variant. The creme jacket shows some light scuff marks, a defect for which these unlaminated creme jackets are particularly prone. (Now protected in a clear, archival sleeve.) Also, there's an unfortunate tape ghost, very faint but visible, on the outside of the jacket's spine panel near the heel approx. 4.5 cm x 1.0 cm in size. Very light bumping at head and heel of jacket spine panel and upper tips, but without associated crinkling. Aside from these defects a fine copy in near fine jacket. A straight, square copy without price-clipping or previous owner's marks. All First Edition points are present: "First U.S. Edition 2004" stated with full number line present. Red endpapers with $27.95 price intact. (True first printings have red endpapers with a creme or black jacket. All later printings have white endpapers and black or red jackets only.) The first edition was issued in two jacket states: one creme and the other black. Also, neither the the creme nor black colored jackets were laminated by the publisher, making them very prone (especially the creme jacket), to wear and smudges. ''A quite extraordinary novel, not least because of the quiet, almost leisurely ways by which it achieves its extraordinariness.'' - Gary K. Wolfe, Locus. The US edition is well past its 8th printing and appears with red jackets. BONES OF ZORA [THE], De Camp, L. Sprague and Catherine De Camp
119 BONES OF ZORA [THE]
De Camp, L. Sprague and Catherine De Camp
Phantasia Press, 1983, 0932096271 / 9780932096272

First Edition, Hardcover, Fine, Fine. Book. Poyser, Victoria
Hardcover first edition and first trade edition. (Preceded by the signed and numbered Phantasia limited edition.) One of 2,000 trade copies. Not a book club, remainder or ex-library copy. Except for small amount of crinkling at top and bottom corners of the dustjacket, this copy is straight, unmarked and very fine (unread) condition in very fine dustjacket. Difficult to find Phantasia titles in very fine condition. The sixth book in De Camp's campy but very fun Krishna series. The series is both SF and Fantasy (starfarers marooned on a medieval world are exploited technically and sexually by the savvy natives), and de Camp took time in this series to poke fun at the SF/Fantasy stereotypes. We'll miss him. Phantasia Press was the premier specialty publisher for SF and Fantasy titles in the 1980's, and these finely crafted editions are very collectible, and theirs titles included Asimov's Robots of Dawn, Brin's Startide Rising, Ellison's Medea, and Gibson's Neuromancer. Excellent full color, wrap-around dustjacket illustration by Victoria Poyser.
