Code "1086" on rear jacket flap indicating an October, 1986 printing and code "BB27" on page 356. Original $16.95 price is intact on front jacket flap. Not a remainder, book club or ex-library copy. The text block is clean and square, with minimal wear. Jacket shows several tiny closed tears and associated moderate crinkling at corners and along edges at head and heel of spine panel. Aside from these defects this copy is clean, straight and not price-clipped. No previous owner's stamps or stickers as is common with this title. Award History: 1987 Locus Poll Award Nominee for Best SF Novel (lost to Speaker for the Dead by Card).

Published without the "First Edition" statement on the copyright page - one of the few Doubleday books that has no statement of printing on the copyright page. (The "First Edition" statement was sold to Phantasia Press for the limited edition.) First Printing with code #0588 on rear jacket flap indicating a May, 1988 printing. This copy is clean, square and without the usual previous owner's marks. Except for a pair of creases on the front and rear jacket flaps, the jacket is near pristine condition with the $18.95 price intact. An unread (and almost pristine) copy. Unusual in such fine condition. Wonderful full color, wrap-around jacket illustration by Boris Vallejo.
