REBEL OF RHADA [THE], Gilman, Robert Cham (pseud. Alfred Coppel)
Gilman, Robert Cham (pseud. Alfred Coppel)
Harcourt, Brace & World, Inc., 1969,

First Edition, Hardcover, Near Fine, Near Fine. Book. Loehle, Richard
Hardcover first edition, first printing and first hardcover edition. Stated First Edition on copyright page. Blue boards with gold lettering. Dark purple rear jacket panel shows some rubbing with some very light crinkling at top and bottom edges of spine panel (normal for a book this age). Previous owner's stamp on half-title page. The page block is bright, square and without stains. A superior copy. A Space-Opera intended for tough, older children, it's a thoughtful work on the decline and resurgence of civilization. Some 10,000 years in the future, mankind has slipped back to a feudal culture, except for the star ships that still link the interstellar empire together. The starship engines run on unlimited energy, but the rest of technology is lost to myth and superstition. Priests chant navigation codes, war horses are transported in the holds for knights and torches light the passageways of the starship because no one remembers how to fix the lights. Within this decay, Kier of Rhada is called to Earth by the 10 year old Emperor to account for himself.

RABBIT AT REST, Updike, John
Updike, John
Alfred A. Knopf, 1990, 0394588150 / 9780394588155

First Edition, Hardcover, Near Fine, Fine. Book.
Hardcover first edition, first printing and First Trade Edition. (A limited edition was published previously by The Franklin Library.) First Trade Edition stated on copyright page. Updike's fourth and final novel about ex-basketball player Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom, preceded by Rabbit, Run (1960), Rabbit Redux (1971) and Rabbit is Rich (1981). First printing points present: purple topstain on top edge of page block and the date "10/90" printed on lower edge of rear jacket panel indicating an October, 1990 printing. Copy shows some age and handling-related edgewear to textblock with some minor rounding of the top and bottom edges of the spine panel (caused by shelving). Slight bow to rear board. Aside from these defects a square, straight copy with jacket and original $21.95 price intact. Award History: 1991 Pulitzer Prize Winner for Fiction.
