Hardcover first edition, first printing and first trade edition. (Preceded by the Subterranean Press limited edition published in 2000.) Signed upside down by Powers as is his practice and dated "01/23/01" placing this copy in the same month as publication, a unique copy beyond just having a signature. Copies of Declare now run into the 3rd printing. Not a book club, remainder or ex-library copy. Supernatural espionage novel set in 1963. Award History: 2002 Mythopoeic Fantasy Award Finalist, Adult Literature. (Lost to The Curse of Chalion by Bujold.) Co-Winner of the 2001 World Fantasy Award for Best Novel. (Tied with Galveston by Sean Stewart.) Winner of the International Horror Guild Award for Best Horror Novel. San Francisco Chronicle Book Review Best of 2001 List.

Book Club, first printing and first hardcover edition. (First published in paperback by Ace in 1984.) Not a remainder or ex-library copy. Science Fiction Book Club edition with first printing code PO28 on page 218. (This SFBC edition preceded the Chatto & Windus UK hardcover edition by five months.) Yellow cloth lettered in black on spine. Faint dust soiling smudge at corner of top page block edge near spine. Light rubbing at corners and top and bottom edges of spine panel with associated crinkling. Two closed tears, the first (3 cm in length) at bottom corner of rear jacket panel and the second (0.75 in length) at lower tip of front jacket fold. Faint crease in jacket near spine on front panel. Aside from these defects a square, straight copy without stains, clipping or previous owner's marks. A very nice copy of a rare book with the classic full color, wrap-around jacket illustration by Ron Walotsky. Award History: 1985 Philip K. Dick Award Winner; 1985 Nebula Award Nominee (lost to Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card); 1986 Locus Poll Award Nominee (lost to The Postman by David Brin).
